In the book, Jonah shares the six basic principles that drive all sorts of things to become popular. ![]() His latest book, called The Catalyst, just came out this year.Ĭontagious is all about the science behind word-of-mouth and why certain things get talked about and shared. Jonah is an expert on word of mouth, influence, consumer behavior, and how products, ideas, and behaviors catch on. He took years of research and turned so much of the data into the great stories and ideas he shared in the book. Jonah Berger is a marketing professor at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. It's one of the best business books I've read this year. Over the next ten years, Crusie sold several short category romances, and then signed with St. ![]() There was no interest from the publishing industry, and Crusie put the manuscript aside. She finished her initial draft of Bet Me in 1992. To her surprise, she discovered that she enjoyed the genre, so much so that she became a literary critic for the genre and began writing romance novels herself. Books can work really well even if they’re mostly build-up, and if the ending is good enough books can often be redeemed, but this didn’t work for me this time.Īnother thing is the use of dual narrative in alternative timelines. thought it a bit too slow, too much build-up. And God, I love Schwab and she always keeps me moving through a novel without feeling bored, but there were points where I was thinking where’s the action? I had a lot of free time to read this so I got through this quickly, but if I was reading it in smaller instalments over a long period, I might’ve started feeling like reading something else. It’s roughly 70% development, 30% action. Vengeful is a novel that thrives mostly on build-up. ![]() Woohoo I get to discuss how I didn’t love this book like everyone else!
